Rewrite Country
Watching the red, white and blues,
You sing along to the contentious views.
Up in arms asking “how about you?”
But I don’t stand by your side,
I won’t support your battle cry!
We aren’t brothers just cause we’re white.
I love where I grew up, the land that I came from
Your racist views won’t erase how it’s made hun’.
I’ll stand by my family, the one that I chose,
Those who hold strong even in the government oppose
They’re said to be hate groups simply for asking
“Why are we fighting when its us who are lacking
The wealth and stability that the rich have taken.”
It’s time for our rebel souls to awaken!
They don’t look like me or believe the same gods
But we all love each other and are happy to get along.
Support for our brothers and sisters alike,
Support for the mothers who raise their kids right,
The fathers that work to put food on the tables,
Those who contribute even when capitalism says they’re unable,
Those who don’t conform to gender norms,
Creating safe space for creative new forms.
There’s more than just us vs. them!
It’s changing the thought process about who is “them”,
The rich have us gutting each others securities,
Fighting over scraps in the face of uncertainties,
But we can fight back to change the outcome,
We need to rewrite country to match where it came from.
